For all occasions
‘Learning from Each Other’ – since 1994
There are times when only cake will do and there have been many of them. There were the anniversary cakes.
At our 10th anniversary ball, Judy Yabsley baked us a wonderful cake. Greedily, we didn’t share it with the adult party goers, but saved it for the next day when we shared the cake with every single person in assembly. It was delicious!

Sinéad Murray baked the fabulous cake for the official opening of the Forbes Building, and celebrating our 20th anniversary. Just like Judy’s, Sinéad’s cake was decorated with the lovely Shimna badge.

There was NICIE’s 35th showstopper anniversary of Integrated education cake.

Then we had curriculum cakes, like Ross Annett’s amazing animal cell cake. The maths department celebrated Pi Day with bakes, with teacher Jacqui out baking even the best in the class. And the Russian class celebrated with cakes and flowers.

Of course home economics classes excelled at cake making, in particular their wonderful wee Christmas minicakes, baked in bean tins! And a lovely parents sent in a Christmas cake to share with all staff..

The home economics department offered caking baking classes for staff, and Alicia’s Victoria sponge won the prize.

Our community partners have always been keen on cake, and, happily keen to share. Shimna Stars celebrated their 10th anniversary in Shimna with cake, and Newcastle Community Cinema horrified suitably with their Horror cake.

When Shimna choir sang for the launch of the RNLI inshore lifeboat, the cake celebrated Eliza herself!

One very special cake celebrated a very special achievement, when founder student Paul Swail qualified as the highest grade of international mountain guide.

Another one was Mandy’s birthday cake, capturing the very essence of glamorous cleaning.
The care our health service workers gave during COVID inspired cake baking to show our appreciation. Remember all those rainbows?
When much loved colleagues left, cake was the centre of celebrating their contribution, for example Teenie off to France, Margaret off to Randlestown, Valerie off to retirement round the corner, Gerard and Maureen retiring together, Peter off to the garden, Hannah flying off to success at Queens and of course Kevin’s cake, complete with guitar and Shimna’s iconic, Mourne cottage building.
Then there were the straight up thank you cakes, and there were so many wonderful, wonderful thank you cakes over the years. Thank you for every one.
