Partnership Working
‘Learning from Each Other’ – since 1994
Our collaboration with Newcastle Junior Athletics Club dates right back to the club’s early days, when Shimna parent Martina Hawkins and others came together to train as coaches and to provide junior training sessions in track and field. Under the leadership of Rory Friel and Jacinta Doyle, much of Shimna’s own early sporting success was in athletics, and the club was a perfect fit for collaboration. Shimna didn’t charge for the use of the pitch, the gym and eventually the Sports hall while the parents qualified as coaches and the club raised funds for equipment, which they were happy to share with the school.
Then came the day when the club felt fully established, and an offer was made by the club to build a storage shed for the equipment, with shed, storage and equipment shared with the school. Parent Mark Poland was called in to do the building, and the shed was soon in place.
